The GREAT campaign was launched in the United Kingdom in February 2014 to promote the UK’s many undeniable assets all around the world. It has helped attract people to the UK and not only for recent international events, such as the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In March 2014 the British Embassy in Kuwait will celebrate major highlights from the UK under the GREAT Week’s diverse themes. British Council will lead on the GREAT areas of English, Entrepreneurs, Innovation and Culture.

Part of this celebration is a public arts festival where UK Art is made accessible and appealing to everyone and shared with a much wider public than the regular concert or gallery visitors. As leading experts in English Language learning and teaching, storytellers from the UK will also entertain the children with interactive readings of their favorite books.

Also part of this Week, the British Council Entrepreneurs Network (BCEN), a group established to support the development of small businesses in Kuwait will run a series of workshops and events. BCEN creates professional opportunities for its members where they have access to training programmes specifically designed for their professional needs and are also provided with resources and materials from a database of valuable information to help with their business development.

British Council also works in partnership with local education institutions to provide opportunities for the exchange of research and scientific findings. One of these events, a Symposium on Alternative Energy with Kuwait University will take place in conjunction with the GREAT Week.

Events will cover all the following:

  1. Bright Spaces – under the umbrella of “Culture is GREAT”
  2. International Higher Education Symposium on research methods on renewable energy – under the umbrella of “Green in GREAT”
  3. British Council Entrepreneurs Network – under the umbrella of “Enterpreneurs are GREAT”
  4. Cambridge Young Learners Workshop – under the umbrella of “English is GREAT”
